Mission
The mission of the Dixon church of Christ congregation, as a family of believers in Jesus Christ who gather to worship God, is to serve God, edify and love others and to seek and save the lost. We are not affiliated with a denomination, but are a “church of Christ,” because Christ established and built His church and we belong to Him.
Worship – We Love and Worship God
Jesus tells us in Mark 12:30 the first and greatest commandment: “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” We assemble to worship God; we love Him, pray to Him and praise Him through songs and service. The sacrifice Christ Jesus made for us saves us from our sins. We remember this sacrifice Christ made for us every first day of the week when we take communion. As sinners we are not perfect, and will continue to struggle with sin, but we strive to live without sin. It is through God’s word that He instructs us how to worship. Our model for the church structure and functions are found in the book of Acts where the history of the church is documented and in 1 Corinthians 14:40 where we are told “Let all things be done decently and in order.” We find great joy in gathering to worship our Heavenly Father.
Service and Benevolence
Jesus taught us the second greatest commandment in Mark 12:31; “‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” God blesses us and is good to us. In turn we show our love and gratitude by sharing His goodness with others; helping meet their needs, and through several ministries we support. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10)
Edification, Growing, and Fellowship – We study and live by the Bible
The Bible is the inspired word of God, so we are dedicated to studying it and learning God’s will for us. We look to the Bible for sole authority and instruction on how to live life with God, with His Church, and with the community around us, and like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, we search the Scriptures to make sure that what is spoken is true. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tell us “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” As disciples of Jesus, our commitment does not end at our conversion and baptism. Throughout our lives our goal is to learn more about Jesus and obey His teachings so that we can become more like Him. We are always one generation away from extinction. We always need to be focused on raising a faithful next generation in our children and grandchildren. We offer Bible Classes and Bible Studies for the very young to mature adults. We are family that gathers with all who are willing to grow together and give encouragement to one another. It is very important that we edify, teach, and build one another up so that each member is growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. We love being together and enjoy the fellowship with one another.
Evangelism – Reaching Out to Others
Jesus taught that every Christian is a minister as God has commissioned us to take the good news of Jesus to others in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Every believer is challenged to live out and to share their faith as we want to help others find the peace, joy, and love that we have found in Jesus; and so we are eager to share the gospel message whenever we can.
